Montego Bay: A Multipurpose Port Connecting the Caribbean
As the only public port located on the island’s north coast, the Port of Montego Bay is critical to industries in western Jamaica.
Located in the second largest city, the port is a multipurpose port utilised primarily in the trade of three types of cargo - liquid bulk,
containerized cargo, and break bulk - and also serves cruise passengers for both port of call and homeporting. The liquid bulk trade
(Petroleum products and LPG combined) accounts for most of the cargo handled (over 80%) with the break bulk and container
trades comprising the remainder. A project is being undertaken to develop an LNG terminal. This development is expected to be a
catalyst for other related activities and business opportunities.
